Where are we headed? (by Tamara Warren, NOLA Paleo)
October 22, 2013
In the beginning of the year, I joined a quiet meetup group, hopeful to connect with others who shared my passion. The group quickly built momentum into a small group of great people having sporadic "Meat Ups". I immediately realized that I like most Paleo people. I love their drive; I love their passion against Conventional Wisdom.
In April, we decided to move the group to Facebook to see if we can increase our numbers by just a few. To think, we were so proud of our 15 active members.
I had no idea of what was coming. In a matter of months, we have grown to 270 members (and climbing). I actually get giddy with the thought that I’m not alone in New Orleans! Now is the time to make a difference - to be a part of something bigger. We need to unite together and leverage our strength in numbers!
Forming a tight knit community to support each other could make a difference in the success of spreading the movement and the lifestyle in general. I’m looking forward to having more Meat Ups where everyone brings a dish (and copies of the recipe). Fully utilizing the NOLA Paleo group, we could even join together to make bulk purchases, split shipping, and share big sales.
I’m also hoping the Paleo community gets involved in more local activities and community events, like Walks for causes and Second Harvest food drives. Having a larger public presence will assist us in putting pressure on restaurants to take notice and offer more natural, gluten free options.
I’m going to do everything I can do to continue to offer events like workouts taught by MovNat trained instructor, gardening classes, and maybe a Primal wine tasting event. (We don’t need to better ourselves at every event, some events can just be FUN!)
I know I have big dreams! But I honestly think this lifestyle is so much easier with positive support. When you can’t get support from your doctor or your family, we are here to help.
If you aren't a part of the Facebook group, please consider joining. It really is a great group of people. You can find us at:
